Marshmallow Easter Peep Kabobs

There’s a secret ingredient in this colorful Easter Bunny Peep Kabob.


An ingredient that costs hardly anything but makes your kabob stand out from the crowd!


I’ll give you a hint . . . it’s Jell-O powder! (I’m bad at hint)

Lately I’ve been getting very excited about Easter and springtime in general so when I’m not in daydreaming in the garden sections of every store in town, I’m contemplating all the holiday goodies. 


I love all the pastel colors of spring flowers, fluffy marshmallows, and sparkly chicks and bunnies.


So naturally I think “How can I get all my favorite things together in one place?”


I know! I’ll impale them on a stick!


And the Easter Bunny Kabob is born.

Ever noticed that food is more fun on a stick?  I’ve seen the pre-made Peep kabobs at the store and they’re so cute, but why are they so stinkin’ expensive? I saw one kabob with four little chicks for almost two dollars.


Two dollars??? A whole dozen chicks or bunnies are only a dollar.  Big bag of regular marshmallows is about a buck and store brand gelatin powder is about 50 cents. See where I’m going here?


So, here’s an awesome idea just in time for Easter and other springtime parties. This Technicolor kabob uses gelatin powder as the secret ingredient to color the marshmallows and they taste as good as they look.


The Easter Bunny Kabob


What You’ll Need:


  • Gelatin Powder (not sugar free) – several flavors and colors
  • Marshmallows
  • Marshmallow bunnies or chicks – (like Peeps)
  • Bamboo skewers, long lollipop sticks or straws




Here’s How:


  1. Place a teaspoon of gelatin powder in a baggie.These adorable Easter candy kabobs are easy, fun and totally cheap!
  2. Very lightly moisten (I used a spray bottle or a little water in a saucer) each marshmallow in water then shake in powder.These adorable Easter candy kabobs are easy, fun and totally cheap!
  3. Repeat with each marshmallow. Let dry.
  4. Thread the marshmallows with the bunnies on skewers as desired.


Diva Tip To make threading the marshmallows on bamboo skewers easier simply dip or rub skewers in Crisco, butter or margarine and wipe off any extra. Works like a charm to keep them from sticking.  


Bamboo skewers go on sale at the end of summer so that’s the time to stock up. You can also find them cheap in Asian grocery markets. But if you’d rather have them delivered to your door – Fox Run Bamboo Skewers, Set of 100


Of course, you can let your imagination run wild with extra candies to stick on the stick.

Some ideas are; fruit loop cereal, sour gummies, chocolate candies, and fruit leather.


You can dip moistened marshmallows in assorted sprinkles or colored sugar. 


Or better yet, melt ½ cup white chocolate chips or candy melts and dip the marshmallows half way then roll in colored sugar, coconut or sprinkles.

What do you do with the rest of the gelatin powder? Assuming you don’t want to make Jell-O, you can add the powder to cake frosting, milkshakes, make colorful whipped cream or save it for next time you want amazing marshmallows.

These kabobs would make a lovely addition to any Easter basket. Just be sure if you’re giving these to little ones; clip the sharp tip off the skewer. I don’t recommend giving kabobs to any child without supervision.


They’d be a lovely gift for the neighbors, festive party favors, or grouped together for a colorful centerpiece on the table for brunch.
